COQUI COQUI MERIDA
It’s more of a luxurious private residence than a hotel, this beautiful single suite lies above the Coqui Coqui boutique in the heart of Mérida’s historical centre. Vintage mirrors, chandeliers and original tiled floors create a sense of ornate glamour, whilst a private rooftop pool, three baths and a balcony add to the luxury. Breakfast is served in the boutique’s cafe, while a small one-room spa also offers treatments.
‘Staying at Coqui Coqui Merida is like living in a magical realist novel. Everything smells faintly of tobacco and orange blossoms; gilded mirrors and dramatic velvet drapes line the walls of the spacious solo suite, antique glass chandeliers hang from the ceilings. The turn-of-the-century building’s original marble tiled floors are cool under your feet, a respite from the intense sun outside, and a wrought-iron bed draped in white linen revels in the soft light that streams through floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open onto a balcony over the tropical, plant-filled interior courtyard.’
